Profile of Mahmuda Begum
Mahmuda Begum is currently working as the Assistant Professor of the Fashion Design department at BIFT (BGMEA Institute of Fashion & Technology). She has coordinated BIFT Night 2008 show for BAFTEXPO 2008 and later in 2009 she has mentored FDT students among whom three student won 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in the Grand Final SDC Colour Design Award 2009 held in Goa, India. She has been working at BIFT since June 2008.
Her work experience also includes being a Design Assistant in Victoria Royal, New York USA, April-June 2007. Her duties there included drawing hand-flats and sketched garments, creating mood boards, swatches for private label clients, organizing the design room and researching trends for their future collections. Before that she worked at BSCIC (Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation) from 1982 to 2004 most recently as their Assistant Chief Designer of the Design Center at BSCIC. At BSCIC her responsibilities included creating new textile product designs and bringing them to realization. She also supervised several designers and craftsmen in her department. She organized exhibitions featuring different handicrafts and textile design and also trained handicraft trainees and supervising training programs.
She has training in Design Policy and Management in Digital Era, completed certificate course from Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) & KIDP of Korea in 2003. In 1997 she completed certificate course from Academy for Planning and Development, Government of People's Republic of Bangladesh in Planning and Management. In 1987 she did a certificate course in Vegetable Dye from Dhaka Vegetable Dye R+D Society. Before that she completed certificate course in Textile Design for Weaving from NID, Ahmedabad, India in 1986.
She held exhibitions in Asian Art Biennale and Graphic Prints Show at China and also held a Solo Design and Product exhibition on ˜Jamdani" at Designers Den Art Gallery, Dhaka in 1999.
Her awards Include ˜Anonnya" award for Fashion design, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2000. She also took the first prize for Best Graphic Prints, Annual Exhibition, Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka University. In 1992, she received the Best Stamp Design prize in Countrywide Design competition on Bbangladesh Phiatelic exhibition (Bnnaglapex). In 1983 she received the Best Stamp Design prize in Nationwide competition on the 12th O.I.C Conference, Dhaka.
