The Brown family faces new levels of turmoil in the latest season of "Sister Wives."
The hit TLC reality series returns for Season 19 on Sept. 15 and TODAY.com has a first look at the explosive trailer.
Whereas past seasons have focused on Kody Brown's breakups with three of his four wives, this season appears to focus on what comes next —which, in Kody's words, is "total civil war."
"What did I do to deserve this? What did I do wrong?" Kody asks in the trailer.
To recap, Kody has broken up with Meri, Janelle and Christine Brown, and is still married to Robyn Brown —who says, in the trailer, she feels like the "idiot who got left behind."
Christine has since remarried, and her husband David Woolley will make his debut in Season 19.
The new season will also depict the family's recent tragic loss. Garrison Brown, one of Kody and Janelle Brown's sons, died in March. At the time local police told NBC Newsthe 25-year-old appeared to have died by suicide. While the trailer does not touch on Garrison's death, TLC confirmed, in a press release, Season 19 will show the family navigating "this incredible tragedy," and "(coming) together to mourn and celebrate his life."
Below, let's parse what Season 19 has in store for each of the show's main figures, according to the trailer.
What's next for Meri?
The clip begins with Meri, Kody's first wife, saying, "Kody and I are officially done."
The couple announced their decision topermanently terminatetheir marriage in January 2023.In the trailer, Meri and Kody hash out their relationship, which was strained toward the end.
“I’m not your wife anymore,” Meri says.
“It’s not divorce that sucks. It’s marrying the wrong person,” Kody replies.
In a confessional interview, Meri fires back and addresses Kody's longstanding apathy for their marriage, saying, "What sucks is marrying the wrong person and not having the decency to tell her until 32 years later."
She also expresses those same feelings to Kody when he says their marriage felt "confusing from day one."
"That's bull----. That is so not fair to me. I would have rather you had told me, Kody, years ago," she says.
Seemingly addressing Meri's comment, the father of 18 offers up the following Kody-ism in a confessional interview: "Blame yourself if I don't love you, OK?"
Meri expresses feeling alienated from both sides of the family, saying she's not going to be in the "ex-wives club," seemingly referring to Christine and Janelle, or in the "Kody and Robyn club."
As Meri prepares to leave Arizona and move back to Utah, her former sister wife Janelle remarks, “It’s going to be healthy for Meri to live away.”
What's next for Janelle?
Janelle and Kody are still in the process of breaking up in Season 19, according to the trailer. Janelle confirmed, in 2022, that she and Kody were separated. While Janelle wants to make their separation more permanent, Kody isn't convinced in the trailer.
Janelle tells Meri, "Kody and I have officially said it's not working." But while meeting with Janelle in person, Kody tries to convince her that they can reconcile.
"I keep thinking that you and I could make this work. What about you and me?" he says.
In a confessional interview, Janelle expresses her frustration, saying, "We have had so many conversations where I’ve said, 'It’s done. We’re done. We’re not compatible.'"
Janelle also considers asking Kody to buy her out of the property they own on Coyote Pass.
"We gotta pay it off and he's not talking to me about it, so I think I'm gonna have to lawyer up," she tells Christine Brown.
The season will also explore the repercussions of her son Garrison's death.
What's next for Robyn?
An emotional Robyn Brown continues to adjust to the loss of a happy plural marriage, saying, "This was not the way it was supposed to go."
Robyn and Kody's marriage also seems to be suffering from all the turmoil in the family.
"I’m having a hard time feeling like (I’m) losing respect for you," Robyn tells her husband.
"Robyn, I can't even get it straight with you right now," he replies.
What's next for Christine?
The season appears to capture Christine's early romance with her now husband David Woolley.
The cameras are rolling after her first date. “We already planned our second date, I am going to tell you straight up," she says.
She also introduces him to several members of her family, Kody included, at a party.
Speaking to TODAY.com last year, Christine summarized the conversation she had with David on their second date.
“I told David straight: Janelle is coming with me. Everything that I do, I’m choosing her too,” she said.
