How to Beat Devourer in The First Descendant
The Devourer is the fifth Void Intercept battle that you'll encounter in your playthrough and is on a whole different level when it comes to difficulty. While you won't have to worry about getting targeted like against the Dead Bride, there are a lot of Damage-over-time (DoT) attacks that you need to dodge effectively to survive.
Devourer Resistances
All the attacks by this Colossus deal with toxic damage, and having at least 1,800 toxic resistance is an absolute must if you wish to survive these attacks. Similar to every Toxin Monster in The First Descendant, the Devourer is extremely weak to Electric element damage, so carrying weapons that have Electric ATK or Descendants like Bunny or Ultimate Bunny will make this fight significantly easier to complete.
Devourer Weak Points
Now that you know about the overall nature of this void interceptboss, you should know how and where to attack to deal with the most damage. To maximize your damage output, aim for the Devourer’s weak points, which include:
- Sensor (Destructible) - Located on its Head
- Core Cover (Destructible) - Located on its Chest
- Balancer (Destructible) - Located on its Knee
- Core (Removable) - Located on its Chest
- Shoulder (Removable) - Located on its Shoulder
Targeting these weak points lets you exploit the boss's weakness and deal massive damage, potentially shortening the battle.
Devourer Attacks, Expanded
The Devourer colossus has a complex set of moves, making the battle particularly challenging. Here’s a breakdown of the most dangerous attacks and how to counter them:
- Toxin Blaster: The Devourer shoots toxin blasts from its hand blaster, creating toxic areas wherever they land. While these blasts can’t break structures, they still pose a significant threat. However, the damage from these attacks is relatively low, and you can avoid them by either Double Jumping or Rolling. If you find yourself in a tough spot, hiding behind structures can also keep you safe.
- Toxin Missiles: The Devourer launches multiple toxic missiles from rocket launchers. These missiles are more dangerous than the Blaster attack, as they can break structures and leave behind toxic areas with a larger radius and longer duration. The damage from this attack is higher from the blaster as well, and the best way to avoid it is by double jumping or rolling.
- Toxin Slam: During this attack, the Devourer spawns several toxic bombs and shoots them across the battlefield, creating a long-range Area of Effect (AoE) attack. While these bombs cannot break structures, they deal great damage. To avoid getting hit, you should either hide behind structures or stay on higher ground, as being near the boss almost guarantees a hit.
- Toxin Nukes: This is the Devourer’s ultimate attack during its Enraged State. The Devourer launches multiple toxic missiles into the sky, which then rain down on your location. This attack deals very high damage and leaves a toxic area behind. To survive, you need to move out of the green zone quickly, using either grappling or rolling to evade the missiles.
Devourer Rage Mode
Unlike other Intercept Bosses, the Devourer's Rage gauge fills up over time regardless of what weapon you use. You can accelerate this process by using weapons with Toxin ATK, which is exactly the opposite of what you should bring to this fight because it will do almost no damage to the Devourer.
You can use your Ecive Scanner to monitor the rage gauge as well as the boss' weak points. Once the Devourer enters the Enraged State, it will become immune to damage. After a while, multiple barrels called Symbionts will spawn across the battlefield. You should prioritize destroying them, or else it'll take longer for the Rage Mode to end.
Devourer Loot in The First Descendant
If you beat this Intercept Battle, the Devourer will drop multiple Epic-grade weapons ranging from level 55 to 59 and Legendary-Grade modules. Apart from that, like every other intercept battle, there's also going to be a Reconstruction Device, which can unlock certain Amorphous Patterns.
Here's a list of all the patterns and what you can get from them:
Material Pattern | Rewards And Drop Chances |
---|---|
Amorphous Material Pattern: 029 |
|
Amorphous Material Pattern: 030 |
|
Amorphous Material Pattern: 031 |
|
Amorphous Material Pattern: 032 |
|
Even if you have all the Amorphous Patterns, you can unlock only one of them per Intercept Battle. You can also use a Shape Stabilizer to increase the odds of getting a rarer drop.
Tips To Beat Devourer
To make this intercept battle easier to beat, it's crucial to equip the right gear and modules. Below are the best Descendants to use, the modules to equip, and the weapons to carry for beating the Devourer.
Best Descendants
Here are the top Descendants to use against the Devourer in The First Descendant:
- Bunny: A popular choice for almost every Intercept battle due to her speed. She can dodge all the Devourer's attacks, including the Toxin Nukes, and inflicts substantial damage with her skills.
- Lepic: One of the best DPS Descendants, ideal for quickly clearing the Devourer's Rage Mode and eliminating the constantly spawning mobs.
When it comes to Descendant Modules, make sure to equip Toxin Antibody and Maximize Toxin Resist for defense. For offense, equip Electric Mastery modules to boost Electric ATK from your weapons.
Additionally, if you can get your hands on a Weaken Recovery module, equip it to make Rage Mode significantly easier to manage.
Best Weapons
When equipping weapons for this battle, you should use 'Pierce' type weapons, such as Handguns, Sniper Rifles, Beam Rifles, and Assault Rifles with an Electric ATK modifier. Your DPS should be at least 20,000, preferably higher, to beat this boss.
Avoid using weapons with Toxin ATK modifiers, as they will only accelerate the Rage Gauge, making the battle harder. And equip Electric Enhancement and Electric Priority modules to maximize the Electric ATK from your weapons.
