What is Via, and what is V3? (2024)

What is Via, and how does its aggregation work?

When we talk about the best router, we don't want to get two or three DEXs and a few bridges. Instead, we want to know all the possible options for transferring token A on chain X to token B on chain Y.

That's why we created our Via Router, aggregating more ‘DEXs, bridges, and chains than any other project, to ensure users can find the best routes with the most liquidity and cheapest fees, to swap their tokens across chains

First, our router shows routes from more bridges and DEXs than any other aggregator on the market.

Generally, there are three ways to make any-to-any cross-chain transactions, and Via is one of the few protocols that supports them all:

  • Make multiple transactions on different blockchains. These are the routes provided by our partners Li.Fi, Socket.Tech and Rango. In the first transaction, you do the swap and bridge, and in the second (and sometimes the third), you do the swap on the target chain. This solution is safe but highly inconvenient due to the need to stay on the site for a long time to make the second (third) transaction, while the rate has not changed much. If the rate changes a lot, the transaction on the target chain with the to_token_amount promised earlier will fail, and the user will lose money for gas and will remain with an intermediate token. It is also worth noting that these aggregators have a complex slippage logic, which does not guarantee the receipt of the requested number of tokens, but only indicates a conditional slippage of 3% to each protocol. This means that if the slippage in the first and second transactions is equal to 3%, the total slippage will amount to 6%

  • Make one transaction through decentralized bridges that have integrated DEXs. This solution, offered by our partners deBridge and Symbiosis, ensures much faster, more convenient, and safer transactions since the slippage tolerance is guaranteed. However, the final to_token_amount will be lower than what you would get with several transactions (there is a saving on external contract calls). Therefore, looking at it from the point of view of the final amount of token received, this option is inferior to the one at point 1.

  • Make one transaction through semi-centralized bridges, which will trigger a second transaction on the target chain. This solution is provided by our partners, Rubic and XY. They have integrated DEXs into their bridges, which is much more convenient than making several transactions but sometimes less secure due to partial centralization. What’s more, these bridges make refunds in stablecoins if the slippage of the second transaction did not allow the transaction to be completed due to a conversion rate change.

Secondly, Via has the most advanced sorting for every taste

Unlike other aggregators, the Via interface will not only show all the available routes and highlight the best one in terms of the final amount of token received or the fastest one in terms of transaction time but also a comprehensive list of data-based characteristics and information about all available routes

  • Smart sorting takes into account all possible variables, such as the cost of gas for approvals and transactions, the protocol fees, slippage, the security and decentralization of the third-party protocols we integrate, and more.

  • Sorting by security considers the presence and novelty of audits, historical statistics on the successful execution of transactions, and decentralization.

  • The maximum return shows the tokens received at the output, taking into account the most likely, minimum possible number of tokens the user can receive through the route (accounting for slippage). And also the most likely.

  • Sorting by time: unlike other aggregators, we show the actual time of the route based on current historic data and not the approximate hard-coded time.

Thirdly, we are the only ones who figured out the cross-chain slippage

When you transfer large amounts cross-chain, you want to ensure that you don't lose a few percent on slippage. This can be hard to do with protocols because they have fixed slippage that cannot be changed. HOP, for instance, has a fixed 5% slippage rate.

That is why we devoted a great deal of effort to discussing with other teams to understand how exactly their slippage mechanisms work. That allowed us to bring slippage settings into a familiar, user-friendly interface that would show the routes with the selected slippage.

What is V3?

One major problem with cross-chain staking is the issue of interoperability. Each blockchain has its own unique set of Projects/Yield Aggregators/Smart Vaults/Delta-Neutral Single-Stake Vaults and, of course, requirements for staking, which means that it can be difficult to move assets between different blockchains and stake them in one click. In order to participate in cross-chain staking, users must first move their assets from one blockchain to another, which can be a complex and time-consuming process. Additionally, some blockchains may have variable APY for staking on the types of assets that can be staked, which further limits the options available to users.

Cross-chain Staking/Lending, or V3, aims to allow users to earn rewards in multiple blockchain ecosystems in one UI using the go-to router with one click feature on one page and even on the final screen of the route. Let us show you a demo of this new feature. However, it is still in the alpha, meaning that many new possibilities for our V3 are coming soon.

Via is a decentralized finance (DeFi) yield optimizer project that helps users earn more with their assets in multiple chains. Now, Via will make it easy for users to earn a yield on their assets in a safe and decentralized manner by using a set of aggregated smart contracts and multiple investment strategies to automatically maximize rewards from various single staking opportunities and, in the future, liquidity pools (LPs), automated market making (AMM) projects, and other yield farming opportunities in the cross-chain DeFi ecosystems. This provides a significant advantage over attempting to do this manually. By using Via, investors can enjoy their yields without any hassle and not leave the App to another to stake their assets.

We got inspired by the problem of all staking projects and inspired by yield optimization projects developed across all networks. Now we will offer intuitive and simple investment strategies through our router and on our website.

So, what will it look like?

The interface will be designed to showcase all possible tokens and possible yields (LPs, single-side staking, lending)* for them and the projects where users can stake their tokens to earn those yields*. The interface will be as user-friendly and intuitive as our router right now, allowing users to easily navigate through different projects and token pairs.

On the main page, users will see a list of the top-performing token pairs with their APR/APY ranked by their real yields and possible bonuses. The list includes information such as the project name, token pair or token by itself, annualized yield, blockchain, and the staking duration if it exists. Maybe we even will be able to see some veTokens locks and optimizers for them on our app. Users will also filter the list based on various criteria they would like to see.

Here's just a random example of how it will work:

Let's say a user has tokens on Metis but wants to stake them on Optimism to earn higher yields. The user navigates to the interface and filters the table to show only the highest-yielding projects that support staking on Optimism. After reviewing the options, the user finds a project that offers both high staking rewards and bonus tokens for staking sUSD.

To stake the tokens, the user clicks on the project and connects their wallet. The interface automatically detects that the user has tokens on Metis and provides an option to bridge them to Optimism. The user confirms the bridging process and the tokens are transferred to Optimism.

The user then selects the desired token or token pair and staking duration (if it exists), and follows the interface's instructions to stake their tokens. The interface also provides information about the bonus tokens that the user will receive for staking sUSD, and how to claim them.

After completing the staking process, the user can monitor their staked tokens and earnings through the interface's dashboard. The user can also view the historical performance of the project and track their progress.

Overall, the interface provides a convenient way for the user to find, compare, and participate in high-yielding staking opportunities, even if their tokens are on a different network.

Clicking on a specific project will take users to a detailed page that provides more information about the project, such as the project's background, tokenomics, and staking rewards. Users can also view a chart that shows the historical yield performance of the project, as well as a list of the top stakers and their earnings.

To stake their tokens, users can connect their wallet to the interface and select the desired token pair and staking duration. The interface will then guide the user through the staking process, providing clear instructions and feedback along the way.

Overall, the interface provides a convenient and efficient way for users to find and participate in the most lucrative staking opportunities in the cross-chain DeFi space.

Mini announcement

We're excited to announce that we'll be expanding our platform to support new liquidity providers and decentralized exchanges (DEXs) in the coming weeks. This means that our users will have even more options for trading and liquidity provision.

Here is a list of them:

  • zkSync Era

  • Tron

  • Polygon zkEVM

  • Lots of DEXs, new bridges, and chain!

We would like to inform you of a small change in our fee structure. Starting from this week, there will be a flat fee of $1 applied to all routes above $200. In addition, routes under $200 will have a fee of 0.5% up to $.99.

We understand that this may come as an inconvenience to some of our users, but we want to assure you that this decision has been made to ensure the sustainable development of our product. As we continue to grow, there are increasing costs associated with maintaining our infrastructure and providing high-quality services to our users. By introducing these fees, we will be able to cover some of these costs and invest in further product development.

We want to emphasize that we remain committed to keeping our fees as low as possible while still ensuring the sustainability of our platform. We are constantly working to find new ways to reduce our costs and improve the value we provide to our users.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to work towards providing you with the best possible experience on our platform. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our customer support team.
